Role description for a UWS Country Education Manager
Volunteer Teacher Trainer Required for Team UWS Cambodia
A UWS country education manager is a challenging and exceptionally rewarding role for experienced educational professionals who want to test themselves, lead charitable work and develop lifelong skills, while making a real difference to and creating opportunities for children from some of the poorest parts of the world. It is an opportunity to build schools and teacher skills in areas where previously no schools have existed.
Experience
Candidates should have experience in an educational role with leadership responsibility. They should have proven success in teaching as well as planning, implementing and managing change in a school.

- Full driving licence and/or motorbike licence (preferable)
Responsibilities
The position is a general educational leadership role, where responsibilities are specific to the time of year and country, while working under the leadership of the country project manager. As a guide, the responsibilities are as follows:
- To develop teacher training for village schools developed by UWS, serving indigenous and tribal people in remote areas.
- To facilitate and develop teacher training workshops to improve school management.
- To manage and train UWS staff to build capacity and release responsibility for educational development over time, under a gradual release model.
- To manage, support and lead an international group of pre-university UWS volunteer teachers, recruited from partner schools.
- Alongside the project manager, to run and manage a series of educational projects, staffed by volunteer students from partner schools around the world (May/June/July).
- Liaise with local government to support and build partnerships with local education and government administration.
- To oversee the purchasing of school resources and equipment; to lead the implementation of these resources to promote literacy, numeracy and creative thinking.
- To develop the strategic educational leadership of the organisation in terms of the specific requirements of the country/locality.
- Act in a safe manner at times, following both UK and local laws
This role description is not exhaustive and is liable to review following discussion with the role holder. The role holder will be expected to undertake any other reasonable duties to support UWS as requested by their team leader.
Remuneration
This position is an opportunity to work for an NGO, is unsalaried, and therefore voluntary. Where possible, and as negotiated, some in country costs such as accommodation and transport will be covered by UWS.
Timeline
This position would suit a candidate seeking a career break or internship for a minimum of 6 weeks.
